Stew pot

Choose an essential for your kitchen: the Pyrex® stew pot

Often overshadowed by frying pans or saucepans, the stew pot remains a must-have in your cookware. Ultra-versatile, it can handle almost everything in the kitchen – hence its name. Pyrex® tells you everything you need to know about how to use it, the types of cooking it allows, how to care for it, and why opting for a ceramic non-stick coating that is PFAS-free is the healthy choice.

What is a stew pot?

By definition, a stew pot is a highly versatile cooking item. Very practical in the kitchen, it stands out from saucepans thanks to its larger size, two side handles and a matching lid. Our stew pot takes care of almost everything in your kitchen. Made from recycled and recyclable aluminium, it looks after both the planet and your health.

Why buy a stew pot in addition to a saucepan?

Quite simply because a saucepan has only one handle, which limits the weight it can safely hold. A stew pot always comes with two large, comfortable handles, making it easier to carry heavier dishes without the risk of burns or accidental drops.

What to cook in a Pyrex® stew pot?

Boiling vegetables, pulses, pasta or rice

This is often the main mission of the Pyrex® stew pot. It is the simplest way to cook vegetables or foods such as pasta or rice, which need to be immersed in boiling water. Nothing could be easier: fill your Pyrex® stew pot with water, add salt and/or a stock cube, bring it to the boil, then pour in the pasta, rice, wheat, lentils or vegetables.

Lower the heat gently once you’ve checked that the food is well covered with water, cover partially if needed, and always use a wooden, plastic or heat-resistant silicone spoon or spatula to stir during cooking.

Advantages of the Pyrex® stew pot for boiling: the non-stick coating ensures that no vegetables or grains stick to the bottom. The lid helps manage natural evaporation as the water heats up.

Preparing stews and sauces

A stew pot with its lid is perfect for simmering dishes in sauce. With the Pyrex® stew pot, you can sauté onions, garlic or shallots in a little oil before browning the meat. Then simply add vegetables, herbs or a splash of stock to create a delicious saucy dish.

► Advantages of the Pyrex® stew pot for sauces: the PFAS-free non-stick coating really shows its benefits here, letting you brown food without it sticking to the bottom, before finishing with a perfectly even simmer.

Cooking in a bain-marie

Who hasn’t tried making custard or other delicate recipes that can’t handle direct high heat? Thanks to its generous 24 cm opening, the Pyrex® stew pot can hold the water for your bain-marie, while a smaller pan with your preparation rests inside.

► Advantages of the Pyrex® stew pot for bain-marie cooking: this gentle method is ideal for creamy desserts. The stew pot holds the water, brings it to the right temperature steadily, and stays stable thanks to its wide base throughout the cooking process.

Browning meat

It is often necessary to brown meat before starting a slow cook. With the Pyrex® stew pot, you don’t need to switch pans. You can sear the meat first, then continue cooking it for several hours if needed, with the lid preserving moisture and steam for low-heat cooking.

► Advantages of the Pyrex® stew pot for browning meat: the robust non-stick coating withstands high temperatures while preventing food from sticking. Always remember to add a little oil, butter or margarine before preheating to protect the coating.

Choosing a Pyrex® stew pot with a non-stick coating for all types of cooking

While stew pots can be made of stainless steel or ceramic, the Pyrex® stew pot combines the practicality of its shape with the performance of its non-stick coating. Made without PFAS, it is safe for your cooking and very easy to clean. You will be able to use it for many years if you:

  • use suitable utensils that contain no metal
  • clean it preferably with a soft sponge and washing-up liquid
  • avoid heating it empty

The Pyrex® stew pot is compatible with all hobs:

  • induction
  • halogen
  • gas
  • ceramic glass
  • electric

FAQ about stew pots

Can I reheat a dish in a stew pot?

Yes. Simply start cooking on a low heat to protect the coating of your Pyrex® stew pot and avoid burning the food. Don’t forget to place the lid on top to retain moisture and speed up the reheating process.

How do I care for a Pyrex® non-stick stew pot?

Pyrex® recommends handwashing rather than using the dishwasher. Use a soft sponge and mild washing-up liquid. Limit dishwasher use, as detergents and tablets are more aggressive than washing-up liquid.

Why does the Pyrex® stew pot have a ceramic non-stick coating?

The non-stick ceramic coating is considered healthier and is PFAS-free. It is durable, suitable for all hobs including induction, and is applied over a body made from 100% recycled and recyclable aluminium.
